The 4 Protective Meditation consists of

1.Recollection of the Buddha (Buddhānussati)

2.Loving kindness (mettā)

3.Repulsiveness of 32 parts of body (saviññāṇaka asubha) / foulness of same-sex Dead body (aviññāṇaka Asubha)

4.Mindfulness of death (Maraṇassati/Maraṇānussati)

Benefits of this group of meditations as stated in Meghiya sutta :

For the removal of lust, meditation on foulness should be developed.

For the removal of ill-will, loving-kindness should be developed;

The best weapon for removing ill-will is to develop loving-kindness.

Furthermore, when faith in meditation slackens, and the mind is dull, the best weapon is to develop Buddha Recollection.

When the sense of urgency is lacking, and you are bored with striving in meditation, the best weapon is death recollection.

Meditators shall be guilded along with the actual meditation  practice, to bring aforefront past paramī as well as accumulating further parami.
